Mustard Now Comes in Dozen of Varieties, Why Has Ketchup Stayed the Same?

Yes, why is that? Malcolm Gladwell uses a whole chapter to explore this in What the Dog Saw: And Other Adventures.

Yeah, why is that?

More on having choices...

From the economist: potato chips only come in 3 flavours a little over a decade ago, ready salted, BBQ and salt & vinegar, but nowadays a whole lot of glamorous flavours.

There's an interesting experiment by an upmarket grocery store in California. In the first test they offered a tempting array of 24 different jams to taste, on a different day they displayed just six. It turned out that more shoppers stopped at the display when there were 24 jams, but more shoppers bought from the display of six.

The researchers repeated the experiment with chocolate as well as student essay tipics and found similar results.

Actually too many choices makes it hard to decide.

'The fact that some choice is good doesn't necessarily mean that more choice is better.'

- Barry Schwartz in The Paradox of Choice: Why More Is Less

Turn What You Know Into What You Do

Read The Profit Principle: Turn What You Know Into What You Do - Without Borrowing a Cent! and found what the author said so true, we don't really need money to make money, we need SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE to make a profitable business. And the author states that one of the reason that most small business that fail in the first 12 months is because they focus on the structure of the business instead of bring in more paying customers.

The Profit Principle: Turn What You Know Into What You Do - Without Borrowing a Cent!

You'll be surprised to find a lot of business owners when they start up a business, focus more time and energy on designing the logo, think about the business name...etc instead of finding more customers and refining the services.

We don't need letterhead if we don't have customers to send invoices to, or customer manage system if we don't have customers. Besides with the internet, a lot of the basic business need can be free.

All we need to do is to find and brush up on our skills, find our niche market, increase our knowledge on our niche and money will start coming in. Think in the past what others paid you to do something?

Best of luck!
